- During World War II, in Australia anyone who produced tea tree oil as a profession was excluded from the draft until there was enough tea tree oil available for hospitals and first aid kits for soldiers.
- The therapeutic powers of tea tree oil have been known for centuries by the Aborigines, who crushed the leaves and made dressings to wrap the skin - healing burns, cuts, bites, and stings.
- The tea tree plant got its name more than 200 years ago when British explorer Captain James Cook noticed indigenous Australians making a drink from the plant's leaves. Captain Cook drank a tea-like infusion made from the leaves, liked it, and started calling the plant a 'tea tree'. The name stuck.
